Lincoln Adim : Nigerian ‘Bachelorette’ contestant convicted of assault, battery – Picture
A Nigerian contestant currently appearing on ABC’s The Bachelorette has been convicted of indecent assault and battery for a May 2016 attack on a cruise ship, the Suffolk County District Attorney confirmed .
Lincoln Adim, 26, was found guilty of groping and assaulting an adult female. The conviction came down on May 21, a week before the new season of “Bachelorette” premiered on ABC.
As part of his punishment, he was sentenced to a year in a correction house, which was suspended for a “two-year probationary period.” He also has to stay away from the victim and attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings a week during those two years.
Failure to adhere to the orders could result in his imprisonment. The account sales executive living in Los Angeles also has to register as a sex offender according to the terms of his conviction.
The question is how Adim slipped through ABC’s system of background checks. Warner Brothers, the production company behind the reality show, denied any prior knowledge.
“No one on ‘The Bachelorette’ production had any knowledge about the incident or charges when Lincoln Adim was cast, and he himself denied ever having engaged in or having been charged with any sexual misconduct.
We are currently investigating why the report did not contain this information, which we will share when we have it,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
